“A different language is a different vision of life.” Federico Fellini
At Carfield, all children start learning Spanish at KS2.
The language lessons are weekly and based on four components: speaking, reading writing and listening with a stronger focus on speaking and listening for Lower KS2.
Each year children learn new topics but also have the opportunity to revisit old ones. Some of the topics studied include: family, colours, numbers, the body, pets, house, direction, food and drink, in a restaurant/at a hotel and weather.
We believe that the emphasis should be on enjoyment and gaining the confidence to say words with unusual sounds, which we encourage by learning Spanish phonics!
We aim to develop their interest, help them learn new vocabulary and promote native Spanish through videos, online games, songs and stories.
Pupils also learn about the culture by learning about celebrations from Spain or other Spanish speaking countries.
