Physical Education

Physical Education (P.E.) is an important part of our curriculum provision. It is a compulsory part of the National Curriculum but permission to withdraw short term may be given on medical grounds. We are normally able to tailor most activities to meet the needs and match the abilities of all pupils. We aim for 2 hours plus of P.E a week. We have partnerships with Points Partnership and Sheffield Wednesday in delivering good quality teaching.

Indoor P.E.

This takes place in the school hall. Activities include large and small apparatus work, creative movement, dance and small games practice.

Outdoor P.E.

The emphasis is placed on developing individual skills leading to small group games. Games activities include hockey, netball, football, rugby, cross country and during the summer, rounders, and athletics.

Children in Y4 have swimming lessons at Heeley Swimming Baths. There is an opportunity to gain awards and certificates up to National Curriculum requirements or above. Children are asked not to wear earplugs or goggles unless there is a letter from parents. Opportunities for swimming have been restricted as L.E.A. funding for swimming has in recent years been reduced.

Currently swimming is only available in three blocks, each of 18 weeks duration.
